Mission

Our Mission, as disciples of Jesus Christ, is to serve the people of Cabarrus County by providing resources to meet the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of people experiencing homelessness; while collaborating with community constituents to develop and implement practical solutions that address the root causes of homelessness.

Our History

Opportunity House started in 2007 with the vision and tireless effort of Mr. Dan Talbert. He was determined to create an organization that would serve the community by meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, and recently released from incarceration. After several conversations to determine the greatest needs within these hardships and meticulous planning, Opportunity House was born. Mr. Talbert wasn't quite done yet. After seeing amazing results and witnessing many guests and volunteers enjoy the fellowship and devotional aspects of Opportunity House, a ministry was created to engage the entire community in restoring faith and hope.

After roughly two years of planning, Narrow Gate ministry launched in 2009 with three members. Ideas for its concept came together while studying Acts II during Saturday morning's Disciple Bible Study. Each founding member wanted to provide a ministry that would engage the community in helping people to move from homelessness, helplessness, and joblessness, to a fulfilling life, while also helping them to find their way to Jesus Christ as their savior.

Narrow Gate provided healing through its meal, music, and message service. The service began to inspire change as participants started focusing on others and the future and hope began to consume the hearts of every member. In 2019, that same service grew to provide healing to over 200 participants each Thursday night.
