Our Team

Jim is the pastor of Opportunity House and The Gathering, the congregation affiliated with Opportunity House. He is ordained in the United Methodist Church.

 

Jim  grew up on a farm in Illinois and began his career as a mechanical engineer. After working in this capacity for thirty years, he, his wife Linda, and their four boys moved to North Carolina. God began to pull him toward the ministry and after several mission trips to Brazil, his calling was confirmed.  Jim entered seminary to become a pastor in 2004.

 

Four years later in 2008, Jim was appointed pastor at the former Kerr St. United Methodist Church. There he began to engage in the ministry of helping individuals experiencing homelessness which made for a natural transition to Opportunity House in 2017.

 

He sees his time at Opportunity House as the culmination of his journey into ministry. Jim often says, “The Gathering is a congregation where people of all races and income status can worship and grow in faith together." Stop in sometime every Saturday evening at 7:00 pm.
